In der IT-Abteilung herschte schon gelöste Vor-Wochenendstimmung als am Freitag, dem 13.09., um 11:34 der Anruf von den Kollegen aus Indien kam, dass das gesamte Netzwerk lahmgelegt wurde und man Opfer der Computer-Mafia geworden sei, die nun Erpressungsgeld fordert. Als kurz danach auch noch die Kollegen aus Italien anriefen und einen erfolgreichen Angriff berichteten, beschlossen die Kollegen der Zentrale, die Internetleitung in das zentrale Netzwerk zu unterbrechen, um in Ruhe beraten zu können. Sie hatten dicke Firewalls, um sich gegen Angriffe aus dem Internet zu schützen, aber der Angreifer muss einen Umweg gefunden haben und die Situation, dass der Angreifer bereits im Netzwerk ist, wurde bislang nicht andiskutiert. Wir brauchen Hilfe .. war der gemeinsame Entschluss und nein, dass hat nicht bis Montag Zeit. It was a urgent call from the collegues from india, which reported that they were attackted and the attacker is now demanding extortion money. When also the colleagues from Italy called and also reported a successful attack, the colleagues at headquarters decided to interrupt the Internet connection to the central network promtly in order to be able to advise. They had just bought NEW GENERARTION FIREWALLS to protect the organization from attacks from the Internet, but the attacker must have found a detour and the situation where the attacker is already on the network has not yet been discussed.
